Signs of Hidden Water Damage and Mold After a Leak

A musty or earthy odor, dark staining, and warped or soft flooring are the three most common early signs of hidden water damage. Because leaks inside walls or under flooring often stay out of sight for weeks, catching these signs early is the best way to limit repair cost and avoid a gradual-damage insurance denial.

3. Warping or buckling of flooring, especially wood or laminate
4. Peeling or bubbling paint and wallpaper

6. Visible mold growth (often dark green, black, or white and fuzzy)
7. Unexplained spike in your water bill
8. Condensation or moisture on windows without an obvious cause
9. Increased allergy or respiratory symptoms while at home
